airfieldsofww2.co.uk is a non profit making web site in memory of the fallen to up date any veterans  and there relatives were ever  they may  be world wide ,station 106  based at  GRAFTON UNDERWOOD   NORThAMPTON -SHIRE ENGLAND home to the 384th bomb group heavy ,operating  the  B17 FLYING FORTRESS   these  air craft flew missions most days over  german occupied terrortory suffering at first heavy losses  until he introduction    of fighter escort ,such as the P51 MUSTANG , P38 LIGHTNING ,P47 THUNDER BOLT ,   these air craft  were a invaluable  asset  to the bomber crews .    bomb groups that flew from here were   97 bg  305bg  96bg  384thbg  14 may 1942 -april 1945   the group flew 316 missions dropped 22,415 tons of bombs on target ,air craft  lost 159  personal lost 1,625 ,enamy  air craft destroyed 165 ,proberly destroyed   169 damaged 116  .this research was done with  kind permission of the land owners and there staff  with out them much would not have been possible
